I am torn between the two laptops below.

The only difference is the price and the fact one is 1.4Ghz and the other 1.5ghz. Which would people go for? Is it worth paying the extra for the 100mhz or is it more sensible to save the cash as the 100mhz wont make hardly any difference?

The two laptops........

the best option would be to find the cost for 1gb RAM as it would make far more difference than 100mhz IMHO

Yeah, save the cash....but with a Celeron processor, its gonna need all the help it can get, so definately bump the Ram upto a 1gig.

I presume you only want it for basic office work, email and web browsing?...if so, an extra 100mhz will be unoticable.

With an extra 512mb, you will be able to have office apps and have multiple web pages open without resorting to page file usage.

WinXP got to be a real RAM hogg after Service Pack 2 came out... :(

Whichever i had out of the two i was planning on sticking another 512mb in anyway to make it 1gb total

Check to see if they have used both Ram slots with the 512mb (2x256) because if they have, and Laptop manufacturers usually do.. , it will mean you have to buy 2x512mb modules....

Its REALLY annoying how they do that.....

Consider a 2nd hand Apple powerbook, Mac OS X is superb and you won't get a better designed laptop.
