my sony laptop is having some issues with its display.
boots fine - get the bright vaio sign and then windows loading. after that it either
1) just goes blank. i.e completely black, i do see no image even when looking very close but laptop still running. eventually it will reset itself after sometime.
2) i log into windows fine and everything works for several minutes before windows freezes. i can usually move the mouse cursor but everything else is dead frozen. eventually auto resets after a while
3) does same as above but the display flicks to funny colour and resolution and an error comes up saying the Ati driver error detected. then either remains screwed up VGA 320 res or resets.
4) works perfectly for hours, with no issues whatsoever.
The laptop works absolutely fine when connected to a external display thus I concluded its due to hardware not software.
googling looks like its most likely a problem with the inverter/backlight or loose cable connection.
now how do I check which one it is?
I can get the spare parts from US a lot cheaper than i was quoted to get it repaired. 150GBP (excl. parts) 3rd party company or ridiculous 450++ from sony.
I also saw another company that fixes inverter 30GBP (excl P&P and parts) or 90GBP for the backlight.
I am confident i can replace the inverter but definitely not the backlight, before i throw money away and buy a replacement inverter, how do i tell whats the problem?
thanks
