Hi guys,

I have an old laptop here made by nova tech and i won't recognize that the main battery is installed. I thought the battery was knackered, so i bought a new one but it just won't register that there is a battery fitted.

It does not charge the battery and does not run without the power cord plugged in. I have no way to test that there is a charge in either battery, so i can't tell if they are charged.

In control panel (XP) it says there is no battery installed

Any suggestions ?

Thanks

probably blown a fuse on the mobo, they are often fitted to protect the system from overcurrent on the battery - could also be damage/dirt on the battery contacts. try cleaning contacts in laptop/batterys and make sure none are obviously missing.

a DMM can be used to check battery voltage. note that a charged lion will probably have higher vltage than the label states (eg myThinkpad T500, battery = 10.6V, charged is closer to 12.5)

as for checking the fuse, you would have to pull the laptop apart and trace the traces from battery looking for shorts/burns/missing components or basic components in series that seem open circuit
