Laptop driver problem.

Hello.

Recently I downgraded the operating system on my laptop from Vista to XP and because the laptop came pre-loaded with Vista I had to get all of the drivers myself.

When I come to install the ethernet driver, the main installation will go through and it'll tell me that when I click finish, the found new hardware wizard will show up, etc etc.

So when I go through with the found new hardware wizard, it'll install what I assume is more drivers, and at the end it'll say the device has failed to load.

The laptop is an Aspire 5315 and the driver is Atheros 802BG.

Could the problem be because the driver I downloaded might only be Vista compatable as I wasn't able to find the XP one.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Edit - Is there a way to find out what the ethernet adapter actually is called, just incase I have the incorrect one?

Nail - Head.

Have a look and try to find the detailed specification of the laptop online, or on the Acer website.

Have you tried plugging an ethernet cable in and doing a windows update? It can sometimes get lucky and find the right driver.

Cheers for the reply mate but it's all sorted now.

From the looks of it quite a lot of people have had problems with the Ethernet drivers. I found a package of drivers for the 5315 that were XP only, so now everything is working fine!

Thanks again.
