If i were to get a laptop in the next few months id want one that was about the same spec as my desktop.

E6300 C2D
4 gig RAM
8800GT 512

With these specs what would be a near or better equivalent? Cost wise - as cheap as possible as long as its got those specs.

It would cost a lot. The cheapest acer laptop ive seen with a mobile 9600M GS costs 550, that is about the same as a X1600 PRO or Raedon 9800 Pro according to this: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html. I chose this as it seemed a reasonably priced "gaming laptop card".

But one which is similar to your card will be a GTX 280M, which will cost you a bomb.

CPU wise a T9400 is very similar to yours score wise here:

So price wise god knows what, id say a grand, im really not sure so dont quote me :P.

Do you really need a laptop that powerful? Couldnt you make a compromise?

Most laptop CPUs with the T7350 or so onwards will be comparable to your desktop CPU... if you want something comparable to the GPU you will need either the mobile 9800GTS era or the "260"m GTX - which is actually a G92b core with 112sp.

Thanks, I can start to check up on the info.

Yeh, id like to get a fairly powerful laptop, im into gaming but im not a graphics fan boy or anything. I like to play games that play well and not bothered about all the frills, so an 8800GT equivalent laptop should last me a long time.

We are thinking about clearing some space (we have far too many computers). Going to laptops is the way forward for us. Ill keep one setup of peripherals like monitor, mouse, printer etc so the laptops can be 'desked' when needed.

I am looking to pay somewhere around (but not quite) a grand.
