Laptop error...help

dads laptop won't boot to xp, just get this error message

NTLDR FATAL ERROR 4096 reading BOOT.ini

i fear the worst. is there anything i can do?

perhaps re-install xp? hehe. Im not sure mate, i was just giving you some feedback because no-one else did. Hope that helps, but by the sounds of if... i think you know whats coming

ah well its the old mans and the laptop is three and a half years old with virtually no faults till now.

he's minted. time he got a new build going.

Sounds like the boot.ini is corrupt or doesn't exist. Sounds like a repair installionation or a new install.

you can recover this with the XP CD. Go and check the MS KB for NTLDR errors and you will find the answer, it's quite simple iirc.
