Hi,

Got a flatmate who has managed to break all the USB ports on sony laptop. Instead of sending the computer away for repairs, I was thinking that there must be some cable that will allow me to use the eSATA port that she has left as a USB port.
The best solution I have been able to find is a cable known as
"eSATA Male to eSATA Male and USB A Female Cable " [google it, won't direct link in case it is being sold at a competitor]

I'm presuming this cable should be fine to work as a USB port, would I be right in thinking this or is there a better alternative?

Cheers

Will never work.

Some laptops have combined USB/eSATA ports, but they simply take USB devices natively, by having a slightly enlarged eSATA port and extra pins on top of the plastic bit.

If it's not a combined USB/eSATA port then as I say, it will never work, as you can't add peripherals to a storage bus.
