Laptop External GPU?

Hi all,

I've got an MSI Laptop, I7, 16gb Ram with a Geforce 970M card.

it does a lot of what I want it to, but split between buying a stand alone desktop or an external GPU drive and putting a better card in there.

I don't play hardcore games but do run CAD programmes and the laptop takes an age to load up drawings.

I'm going to be moving to working from home from now on, so the laptop will be doing more work duties, but will also come with me on work trips. So thought it would be handy to have the external GPU for home mode to support more monitors and then just take it away when in travel mode.

I see the Razor Core X also charges USB C laptops - that would be bloody handy if it's only one plug.

What's so special about the enclosure? I mean can I do the same thing with a tower? and just put a GPU in there and connect it to my laptop to do the same thing?
