Laptop flashing orange power light?

model and make plz?
could just as well be a ram issue

but give you done some research, pointing to power it could just be battery is the issue.
if your comfortable opening the laptop try disconnecting the battery and see if it boots normally. if it does id consider a replacement battery.
it could be a cmos battery issue if the machine has one. but id expect other symptoms
if it doesnt have cmos then you need to replace battery as its acting as the main battery + cmos battery :/

Its this;

Medion ERAZER Beast X40 17.3" 240Hz Intel Core i9 QHD+ Geforce RTX 4090 Laptop

I'm doing a cinebench test and the score is way under what it should be. Aren't the fans supposed to kick in during the test?

GPU scored 910

Very strange. After the gpu test I did a multi core cpu test and noticed the fans worked on that. So I did another gpu test and the fans worked.

Then I did 2 intense tests on a program called Unigine heaven, which the gpu past twice. Then I went back into the main game I was playing and everything worked. I had tested it on 2 other games that had showdown issues too (gta 5 and socialable soccer) both worked.

Though the problem is resolved for now it seems like something is unstable somewhere.

The problem is back today. Though after using cinebench and checking temps the gpu never goes above 60c during the test, so no wonder the fans aren't kicking in.

I did another Unigine test today to compare it to the test when I got it working properly yesterday;

you have 2x GPUs your sure its using the right GPU?
Yes. I selected to use the 4090 only. I did think that myself yesterday if it was switching properly. But I found an option to turn off Nvidia Optimus, so on the next boot it no longer saw the integrated graphics.

I think this is either a power and/or battery issue. I just got it working again when I unplugged it for 20 minutes before going on, and then plugging it back in.

So gpu is only working properly when the battery is charging.

It seems to have stopped working when the battery is fully charged plugged in, or unplugged and only on battery power.

unpluggd i can sort of understand if its doing power optimisation and trying to force the gpu tot he intel.

also check the power settings if its set to perfroamnce / balanced / power saving.
i might suggest checking with a fresh install or check drivers are up to date.

are you comfortable disconnecting the battery? and do some testing with out it.
tbh if battery was fully charged and plugged in to power would expect good performance

I don't think the battery is detachable so I'll have to send it back.

I'll check the effects of changing the profile tomorrow. I changed it today. But then I plugged the laptop back in so I'm not sure if changing the performance profile changed anything.

how new is it?
if its in warranty then yep defo send back for a look see. but they may also say it needs a fresh OS as part of troubleshooting, also remove any personal information/data!

to disconnet the battery you'd have to take the back of the laptp and get inside, not everyone is comfortable with that. it should be simple but would also void warranty potentially unless remote tech support asks you to do it and even then its questionable on a consumer laptop. a business laptop you can do it a lot more easier.

October 2023. I had a problem with it early on with the fans blasting to much. Then the place I bought it from did some tests that found a fault, so they sent it off to Medion.

So far it's been in RMA longer than I've had it lol.

This morning I tested it with the power setting set to performance instead of balanced and the fans were kicking in when they should do.

I did email the place about the issue but so far no reply.

I'm getting a bit concerned by the state of commercial computer building these days. Looks and reaching high speeds in tests seem to be the main aim over stability.
