A mate at work has £400-£500 to spend on a laptop.

I know nothing about them but was thinking:
Intel Core 2
4gb ram
integrated graphics (won't be used for games)

Don't know what the Atom procesors are like at all as I've never heard of them until today. I see everybody seems to be recommending the Samsung NC10 but it has only 1gb ram and I thought that would be sluggish with Vista.

Any ideas appreciated.

Does this seem a good buy for £430?

Acer Aspire 5920G 15.4-inch Laptop, Intel Core 2 Duo T5750, Vista Home Premium, 4GB RAM, 250GB HDD, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470

I'm in the same situation as yourself,

I've found this one for £400,

HP 6735s Laptop
AMD Turion X2 Dual Core RM-72 2.1Ghz
4GB 800DDR2
250GB 15.4
DVD RW LightScribe Writer
WLAN, Webcam, Bluetooth 2.0+,
Onboard ATI Radeon HD3200
Windows Vista Home Premium

depends on size needed - if its ultraportable, then i have to say the NC10 - and with 2gb ram, it's fine with Vista, the Atom is a nippy 2 threaded processor!
