Whats the best Laptop for around 400 quid?

I am looking at the Dell Inspiron 1520 but was wondering what else is out there?

Would go up to 450 but prefer lower price.

Looking for a laptop for pics, music, net and word/excel.

Cheers

If you're not looking for anything that can play the latest and greatest games, a Vostro might be your best bet. I specced a Vostro 1500 today with 2gb RAM, a 1.6ghz CPU and 160gb drive for £404 shipped - play around with that and you should get something that will suit you.

Look around on cometitors for the levono (never spell it right) 3000 N200

Its £349 with free del and has:

1.6 C2D
1 gb ram (free 1 GB when you phone up) = 2gb ram
160GB HDD
bluetooth
wifi
Vista home premium

Im gonna get one if I don't buy a macbook.

Does anyone have the above laptop? I can't find better for the price, but from what I have heard the graphics card is not up to much. So if anyone has one, Lenovo 3000 N200, share your thoughts....

The G-card isnt upto gaming but fine for non-gaming use.

Im buying this laptop in 3 weeks, if u look on a competitors website all the reviews give it 5 stars.

if you go on the USA dell site, you can "build" a vostro 1500 With geforce 8600 card for 950 dollars. on the uk site you can build it for £414 but has the intel g.card

there is also somebody selling one in MM for 475 (way overpriced in my opinion) which has the good card, and may be an option

Get the Lenovo, I'm getting it pretty soon. Stong build, excellent spec, and will be fine for gaming with old games such as CSS

The Lenovo 3000 N200 is a great budget laptop, picked mine up for £349 a few days ago. I recommended it to a friend who was buying a new laptop, and liked theirs so much I bought one myself.

The graphics card isn't great for gaming but for a sub £400 laptop you cant expect much better, and you need to upgrade the 1gb of RAM to atleast 2gb or Vista runs like a dog. I picked up an extra 2gb stick for £30, made a big difference.

It's got a few nice integrated extras too Wifi, Bluetooth, Camera, Card Reader and Fingerprint Reader.
