Hi first of all I'm a long time reader short time poster. As christmas is coming up I would like to get my dad a new work laptop. I'm fairly new to laptops but I've built a few PC's. This laptop needs to have: give or take a 16" display, long battery life, quick, SSD if possible, reliable.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. :)

I'm looking for some inspiration too, there seems to be a lot out there but narrowing them down seems to be nigh on impossible without knowing where to start.

Is it possible to get a Haswell processor for £500?

I bought my fiancee a Lenovo Flex 15 for £550.

That came with 4th gen i5 processor and 4400 intel gfx. windows 8.0 (upgradable to 8.1 via the market), 15.6 inch touch screen, and upto 9 hours battery life. I did consider a HP laptop (can't remember the model number now @ £530) with similar specs, but the battery life (upto 5hr on the HP) and build of the Lenovo won me over.

I spent a while looking around (though computer specs are now pretty much lost on me after paying no attention to them for about the last 6-7 years), and this seemed about the best spec for the money, especially given that it had a touch screen. I'd also read that Lenovo were fairly highly regarded for build quality, etc.

Anyway, she's pretty happy with it
