hey peeps,

i havn't owned a laptop for a fair while so don't know whats goin on really in the market... whats the best laptop i could be looking at for around 6-800 quid?

thinking summat in the toshiba satellite pro range? duo core centrino and all that?

it is going to be used mainly for work including some of the more intensive graphics progs such as photoshop, illustrator etc. and maybe a few games but i know to play decent games on a laptop ends up costing a pretty penny

what dya reckon?

p.s. think i need a gig of ram? most come with 512 which seems like the dark ages to me

hmmm never heard of them but just chucked it in google and they look pretty good... have they got a good rep?

is the 7600 the current mobile video card to have or is the ATI X1400 the daddy?

you mean the x1600, the 7600 in the zepto 6214 is overclocked to Gt spec which makes it a match for the x1600

HP laptops arent all that great unfortunately. General build quality is a large step below what Toshiba Laptops are.

I would say that Toshibas are "generally" good, but there are a few models that are not. Take a look on their site, they have allot of models for all different needs.

Yeh, i only buy Toshiba for work laptops. We have over 50 and i can't remember a problem which wasn't down to user carelessness.

i did actually mean the 1400 cuz i didn't know there was a 1600... i'm looking at a few dell laptops and the 1600 isn't even an option :(

really like the specs of those zeptos but am very sceptical about stuff that hasn't had much press... but it does seem you get a hell of a lot more for your money than the toshibas dells and sonys... tough call peeps, really tough call :( - but as they say, if something seems too good to be true it usually is unfortunately...

email them and ask about where you can talk to other zepto owners for reassurance, in denmark they have a far bigger rep then you would think

the x1400 and 7400 just dont give enough power for me

From what I have heard of the zeptos they are pretty good, but their screen quality was lacking when I last heard of them, they might be better now though

the original screen was and is matte, zepto allow u to choose matte or the new glare type.

isnt it funny how notebook people are complete opposite of desktop people when it comes to screens

right... i've made a big desision in terms of performance...

this laptop will not be used for gaming (i have decided to spend a bit on my home desktop for gaming which will blow the laptop away for a fraction of the cost)

so...

bearing in mind i would like:

• centrino-duo processor
• a gig of ram
• 15.4" widescreen
• as sleek, portable & battery efficient as possible **IMPORTANT**

so i'm thinking:

Sony FE21H (or maybe the FE21M which has a 128MB GF 7600 Go as opposed to the 256MB GF 7400 Go in the H variant)

Toshiba Satellite Pro A120

Acer Aspire 5672WLMi

DELL xxxx (whichever is the equivalent to the above)

any opinions on these would be greatly appreciated... with regards to the zepto, i'm not really comfortable with the idea although the prices were good, i'm a bit of a brand whore :D

what dyu reckon?
