All comments welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks

Not very likely, gaming performance is not important

9) How many hours of battery life do you need?

Not essential, will be connected to mains whilst works are being carried out

10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?

Am not to worried about seeing it beforehand, as long as i can get an idea of the look. The most important would be that it has a good review from previous users or experts

11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc.

Windows 7.

12) From the choices below, what screen resolution(s) would you prefer? Keep in mind screen size in conjunction with resolution will play a large role in overall viewing comfort level. Everyone is different. Some like really small text, while others like their text big and easy to read. Click here for Screen resolution information.

HD compatiable

13) Do you want a Glossy/reflective screen or a Matte/non-glossy screen?

Doesn't matter.

Build Quality and Design

Build quality is important, I don't want anything that's going to feel cheap in my hand. It needs to be reliable

14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?

Insides are what matters, components, etc

15) When are you buying this laptop?

next month or two...

16) How long do you want this laptop to last?

3-4 years

Notebook Components

17) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive?

NO SSD, HDD only. Bigger the better.

18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive?

DVD Burner and other imports / exports would be beneficial, i.e. HDMI port, USB sockets, card reader

Good sound is essential for live streaming etc....

My old toshiba laptop worked fine with auto cad 2008, it was a toshiba satellite, cant remember the model. That should do fine on that budget.

My favourites are the lenovo and business HP with high resolution screens. You can get a used dual core, 1920x matte screen with a quadro gpu for less than £200. These are workhorses and are build to last.
