Hi all,

My son is desperate for a laptop but me and the Mrs are worried about the level of money that we are going to have to pay to get him something that is gaming compatible.

I'm a PC man through and through and upgraded my own machine years ago which see's me through things like Football Manager, WoT, Planetside 2. So I kinda get that level.

However when it comes to laptops I am lost.

My son generally plays browser based games so I am guessing that we do not need anything to powerful for that however if he starts getting into things that need a little more oomph then what sort of money are we looking at.

I really do not want to spend more than £350 ish and want to try and get something on Black Friday to either reduce costs further or pick up something more expensive for £350.

An suggestions?
What will £350 allow him to play?

Regards

Hopefully you managed to snag a laptop during the sales.

A couple of years ago (January 2016) my family purchased a laptop for my nephew (ASUS X555LA 15.6-Inch Laptop Notebook (Intel Core i3-4005U 1.7 GHz Processor, 4 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, Integrated Graphics, Windows 10) it came in at £301.00. My nephew adores TF2, Palladins and Kerbal - Astonishingly this laptop plays them all, albeit with the details turned down! To be fair they do not look horrific and the game is still playable as long as expectations are realistic.

No doubting it has a tough life during this period. Whilst looked after, from the outset it has been used heavily for playing games and far exceeded everyone's expectations. I would have thought it would have melted by now having played some fairly intensive games on a regular basis. Only fault was that it has lost one key cap - the pet cat was the culprit.

Now two years down the road and it's still working! This was two years ago so for your budget, I would envisage that you could find a nice laptop which will play the types of games you are planning for your son. :)
