A few months ago I did a major upgrade on my linux PC, went from an AM64 3000+, 2GB Ram, Nvidia GF4 MX440 to an Intel E5200, 4GB ram, 8600GT , 500GB hard drive all running on an Intel IP43.

However I now wish I had went with a laptop as I'm planning a few photography / walking holidays next year and the portability of a laptop would be somewhat of an advantage as I could then look through the days photos back at the B&B / hotel.

Luckily my parents were planning on buying a new base unit in the new year to replace their old HP Intel Celeron box so my cunning plan is to buy myself a laptop, swapping my current base unit with my parents for some cash.

Question is I'm not all familiar with laptop technology, ideally I'd like something similarly specced, e.g. Core2 T5800, 4GB ram, 120GB hard drive, for under £600 at most.
I'd probably keep my Dell 2008 WFP as an external monitor so I reckon I'd be ok with a 15" display on the laptop - however I take it I'd need a laptop with an external monitor port?

All spec suggestions welcome!

:)

-- Edit -- had a look around:

Also, I've had a look at IBM Lenovo ThinkPad SL500, the spec below comes in at £503 inc delivery

Lenovo ThinkPad SL500 2746 - Core 2 Duo T5670 / 1.8 GHz - Centrino - RAM 2 GB - HDD 160 GB - DVD-Writer - GMA 4500MHD Dynamic Video Memory Technology 5.0 - cellular mdm / mdm ( UMTS, WCDMA ) - Vodafone - Gigabit Ethernet - WLAN : Bluetooth, 802.11 a/b/g/n (draft) - TPM - fingerprint reader - Vista Business / XP Pro downgrade - pre-installed: Windows Vista - 15.4" Widescreen TFT 1280 x 800 ( WXGA ) - camera

The dell seems a better spec for the money although not sure about the quality compared to the Lenovo? However not too happy about lack of nvidia graphics on both these machines. 3D support in linux isn't all too great at the moment for ATI cards.

Any other laptops I should be looking at?
