Hi

I have a spare £1000 so i decided that i will buy myself a decent laptop,
this laptop will be used for editing video files, altering images in photoshop, playing games like bf3 and mainly programming (games, web etc).

Laptop must be good quality as i will be carrying it a lot .

*Screen size 15 inch or 17
*Processor i7 minimum
*RAM 8GB
*HDD 500GB min and an SSD 128GB
*1080p

I have been thinking about Toschiba, MSI, ASUS, ?Lenovo?

Also i cannot find a good shop to buy the laptop in can you recommend some ?

Thanks for the help.

I have heard that MSI has problems with temperature ? Especially in those slim models.
Also do you know up to how much i can expand RAM ?

I can't comment on the GS60 but the GS70 has no issues with temperature and that's the same CPU. You can use the intel extreme tuning utility to undervolt if you want to lower the temp further. Mine peaks at around 75c when playing BF4.

Hi there is no heat issues on the GS60 with 860M.

If you check reviews you will see that all slim NB heat up more as the size of the chassis is thinner.

MSI looks very interesting but what about other models and NB from ASUS and Lenovo, is MSI GS60 the best choice ?
To the users of GS60 and GS70 - what's the average temperature when working on the laptop with software like Eclipse, Photoshop, AfterEffects ?
Also i heard that even when your only using laptop for web it is pretty loud compared to other laptops.

I shall let other GS60/GS70 owners respond.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

The normal running temp for my GS70 doing work like that is no more than 55 degrees.

What about noise ?

inaudible against background noise such as the tv or music unless you stick your head next to it, picks up a bit if you're doing something intensive like gaming but still not enough to be an irritation.

Looking for a laptop to use for programming aswell.. Key needs are quad core (for vm`s) hd screen and good battery life. Not sure if I should be looking for an ultra book type of laptop or a gaming laptop. Any recommendations ? not fussed about graphics card as wont be gaming, just need something which can run visual studio 2013 and several vm`s.

I have been thinking about it decided that i will upgrade my desktop for gaming and buy the laptop for only programming and video editing.

Can anyone say anything good about Lenovo or MacBook Pro Retina 15" (cheapest version) ?
