Hey guys,

I'm looking to sell my pc and get a laptop instead so i can take it into my university lectures and take it back with me on home visits etc. mainly it'll be used for programming, Microsoft office and i would like to play games such as

Rainbow six siege, dota 2, ark survival on decent settings. will also play the odd AAA title now and then.

i can stretch the budget to £2.5k but ideally id want it to be £2k or under. needs to last me atleast 4 years and i'd like an i7 and 16gb of ram and ideally quiet (whilst not gaming) and for it to not overheat

I will probably take the hard drive out of it and use my own SSD's in the laptop, so a laptop that allows you to put in 2-3 sata 3 SSD's would be a huge bonus

Tricky one, a 17" is going to be too big to cart around, arguably a 15" will be too big to practically use in the lecture hall so 13"/14" is probably best.

But then you won't get great gaming power in a smaller unit, not one that'll last 3+ years

I'd keep your PC and get a cheap ultrabook type of device for work and travel.

A gaming battery is only going to last 3 or 4 hours, not all day, and you don't want to be carrying a 750g+ chunky ac adapter with you all day at Uni just because you have a 1070 in your laptop.

Hrmm scrap that ill just take a notepad and pen with me. Would still prefer a laptop though so its easier for port it around and going back and forth to home etc
