Hello folks

Help I need a laptop soon for going out to meetings the main requirement must be able to run Solidworks at reasonble pace in terms of loading and usage working on models. The stuff i do is NOT photographic super duper complex quality renderings so im unsure what spec laptops i need apart from 4-6gb ram with loose budget around £500

Thanks

******* advent roma 3001 for under 400 quid works very well for solidworks but the battery sukz ass and every advent laptop I have seen so far has dead pixles

i got a dell studio 17 about a month ago for that very purpose, i7, 4gb ram, 4650. picked it up from the dell outlet for £545, just have to keep an eye on it.

i'd done some benchmarking against mt old desktop that had a c2d and 6gb ram, rebuild times on models were significantly faster, on a particular part it was nearly 70s faster. renders on photoview were also much faster the quad core and 8 threads really make a difference.

Running on mains onsite is no problem with portability in mind a good quality 15" screen is ample.

Is going for dedicated graphics or going for more ram better option for solidworks for creating and modify cad/camm models in solidworks?

Some of these new intel i3/i5 laptops appear to have dedicated ati with manual switch are these better option to go for? Do they use up system ram or is the graphics card have seperate memory?

so far from my experiance with soldiworks ram and cpu power are big players. I dont think solidworks uses the gfx card as much as others do. is the laptop for all day solidworks modeling or just the casual here and there model tweaking and modify to show clients?
