gf is looking for a laptop:

lightweight (but not a netbook), disk drive etc needed
durable (its gonna get knocked around a bit ),
just for internet browsing, word documents, film watching
£500-600

and shes a medical student so no need for gaming (if she does its only the sims)

they have a dell studio at home and she doesnt like it due to it being too heavy. It'll need to be carried in a backpack everyday for lectures etc

I've no idea on laptops so im currently poking around, thought id ask here first!

tip: she had an alu unibody macbook and liked it a while back, however she doesnt like mac osx and would rather white now, also said "~lu: but its not worth all that money though", good girl :)

found this:
Samsung Q330
gfx arent the best, res isnt the best, battery time is good (5hrs +) within price. ?

The Q330 looks like a really nice laptop. The specs are pretty good too. The Samsung R580 might be a better choice for watching movies as it has a 15.6in screen, though you do lose some portability. I find the new Samsung laptops are also really good looking.

To be honest, if your gf is only gunna be browsing/watching films etc, you could probably get a more than adequate (albeit older and probably more ugly :p) laptop for around £400.

Hi psypher, would you only be interested in a new laptop?

Sorry yeah, it'd have to be new (her rents would be buying it for her bday) :)

shes not tooo fussed on it being pretty (she had a macbook alu unibody and scratched it, broke her heart lol) and is using an old dell something that gets chucked around. But something nice is always, nice :)

I'm looking for virtually exactly the same laptop for my wife!

She's been using my XPS M1330 (until it failed for the second time outside of warrenty) and really wants a ~13", slim, light laptop for movies, word, internet.

The samsung Q330 is the best thing I've found so far. We would've like to have kept under the £500 mark but can't find something that does it all and has some decent build quality to it.

The HP Pavilion dm3 was perfect until I realised the DVD drive was USB - that'll get lost/forgotten or broken far too easily.

I'd like to get a macbook but wife doesn't like OS X and says she just needs a cheap one (albeit to the specs. above!)

Found any othe laptops? Or bought the Q330?

her bdays not untill sept so a while yet :)

the Q3 is looking the best at the moment though, will have a proper look myself next week (busy atm unfortunatly)

great to find someone in the same situ though :D

damn fussy women ;)
