Basically im after a very portable laptop with very good battery life on it. Windows or Macbooks have been considered but I want to get the best for my money. Prefer something small so 13 inch screen max as I've got a 22 inch samsung tft at home if I want to see anything larger lol.

Price budget is about £700

help!

Really not a fan of ACER and gaming isnt an issue on the laptop. I've got a decent spec desktop PC for gaming. This laptop is purely for study

Fair point re Acer if you are questioning their quality, but I think you'll find Acer have upped their game with the Timeline series.

Apart from that I'd have to recommend the Macbook Pro 13". I've had one a few weeks now and they are very very good. Battery life is 5-7 hours depending on usage patterns for me, which is good considering the 2.26Ghz C2D cpu.

Yeah the 13 inch MBP is what im looking at for my needs. I went into a store earlier and had a play around on one to try out the touchpad and how comfy it was to use etc and was quite impressed by it. Its a toss up between a 13 inch MBP or a samsung/HP netbook which are like half the price but ultra portable lol. OcUK sell a samsung one I saw earlier for the same price with windows 7 but I didn't get to have a go on it.

Reckon one of those would be good enough to do work on or still stick by the MBP?

I wouldn't want to type on a netbook for an extended period as the keyboards are too cramped and the performance compromise is too great and the screen is too small for extended sessions, but thats just my opinion. As a student you'd be entitled to the Apple higher education discount on their entire range which brings the price down nicely.

Well I took the plunge and bought the 13 inch MBP earlier today, its been dispatched and should be with me tomorrow according to the email. Sure it was slightly above my budget but it more than fits the bill for what I need it to do and be!

Thanks for the advice everyone

Cool. Let us all know your thoughts on the MBP once you've received it and had a play.
