My uncle needs a new laptop which he plans to use with some new graphics software he has ordered.

He wants something reasonably portable, say 13-15" ish. He also wants the option of plugging in to his external monitor for when he needs some extra screen real estate.

The software is not desperately new so the laptop doesn't have to be super speedy, but he doesn't want some bargain basement effort. The software requirements are...

# Windows 98,2000,ME,XP,Vista,Windows 7
# Minimum 1024x768 screen resolution
#15MB hard disk, 1GB minimum memory ,1.2GHz processor speed or greater.

So I guess, a middle-ish range laptop, 13-15" screen with the ability to connect an external monitor. Needs a DVD drive also.

Price isn't neccessarily an issue, but say £600 max for now.

Any suggestions? :)

Quite literally anything you pick up these days will tick all those boxes (especially the 15MB HDD ;)).

You don't even need to go mid-range with that, an entry level model will suffice.

For what you want a £300-£400 laptop will more than suffice.

OcUK has a lot of great deal on at the moment on laptops so be sure to check out their range. :)

Great, I'll take a look. I'm just not sure what to look for to indicate that I can hook up an external monitor. My old laptop had a VGA port but i'm guessing that's outdated now?

Most modern laptops will come with a DVI-I port, which will connect directly to the same on modern monitors, or via a cheap adaptor to a VGA port.
