Can someone please help me with this , i am trying to format a laptop for a friend but when the xp setup gets to the format processi get the following error

"setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer, make sure any hard drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk related hardware configuration is correct.

This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program"

The laptop works but is dog slow and riddled with viruses, C:\ Is showing in my computer ?

Any help on this would be much appriciated :)
thanks.

Spec of the the laptop may help but I suspect you'll need drivers for the hard drive controller. Use F6 early in the setup when prompted and supply the setup with the drivers it needs (on floppy disk or make a slipstreamed CD if that isn't possible.).

Compaq Presario C300 CTO Notebook PC is the model.

ok so i have found the following file Intel SATA AHCI Controller Driver, description " This package contains the Intel Serial ATA (SATA) Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) Controller Driver. This package is used to create a diskette that is needed during a new operating system installation to ensure that the notebook hard drive is detected and usable for the installation"

My problem is thou i have no floppy drive on the laptop?
can the file be exucuted from a memory card or cd?

Needs to come from either a floppy or from what is called a 'slipstreamed' installation CD for XP. With Vista and later you can use a memory card but, alas, not with XP.

Google 'slipstreaming windows drivers' or similar for further help.
