Laptop freezing

First off sorry for posting here, I clicked on laptops and it kept taking me to the site to buy laptops lol

Anyway, I have a F&H laptop with windows 7 premium. It ran fine for about year and half and then suddenly I lost the scroll on the mouse and it began freezing. I spoke with a few in the know friends who decided a fresh install was probably needed! As it was brought from a guy who rebuilds laptops who said if I needed to do a reinstall I would have to uses vista disc I downloaded a mirrored copy of windows 7 premium and used some software to get my key.
I installed the new copy and put my key in which was not recognised but hey ho I had it on and I can buy original when I could confirm it working again. The screen resolution was like something from the 90's and the scroll still wasn't working so I installed updates from Microsoft and the laptop started coming on but when it got past the BIOS the screen would switch off but the load up sounds could be heard. I started up in safe mode and did a system restore which took it back to the 90's look again.
I then recently found out that the laptop was not actually F&H but actually a Clevo! So I visits their site and updated the VGA driver which made it look as it should, with this problem solved I went back to the site and downloaded the drive for the touchpad and I now have my scroll back too!
This was all great but now the freezing is back! I am going to get a macbook at the end of the month as they come highly regarded in my circle of friends (although not cheap). The problem is I'm a university student and have a couple of assignments that I need to be getting on with in the time between now and getting my Mac.
Can anybody help me get it working so that I can continue with my work. If its any help its a Clevo W76 s series

Many Thanks

Going to attempt Memtest86 now but dont have any disks so attempting from a usb so may take me a while... Here's the results from cyrstal disk while you wait lol

Common! You think I'm that smart I know what all those numbers mean haha.

It should tell you the status of your drive, good, caution or bad etc.

If it's green and saying health ok... That's great.

Edit*

Just spotted health status amongst all that. Drives fine then, now just for the memory.

Ahhhhhh my bad, I werent sure what to throw up there so thought all of it would be better than none of it lol
Its blue and saying Good... Cant run the memtest right now as I dont have a disk to burn it to and it wont boot from usb so may have to do that one tonight unless a disc can be found.

A DVD would also work? Doesn't need to be a CD.

No worries anyway, just run the windows version. Start menu, search for memory diagnostic. Run it.

I have an abundance of discs at mine but I'm at the other halves house where the only discs consist of Desperate Housewives and all other non essential nonsense haha
Just ran the Microsoft memory diagnostic and there were no problems found

Don't knock it until you've tried it! I loved DH.

Well, memories fine and so is your hard drive. It must be a software problem.

Can you go into more detail on the freezing issue? When. Where, how often, what actually freezes? Does it cut out, off, restart?

I've tried and it ain't my cup of tea lol

Sorry for the late reply by the way, I work really unsociable hours :(

It's pretty random in all honesty as to when it happens, but its pretty much every time I start it in normal mode, it's crashed as soon as it started loading up and sometimes it will wait until I open a webpage... Which ain't too long after it loads up in all honesty.
As for the what it is ultimately the whole screen freezes. The last few times its the background that freezes but the mouse pointer still moves, but then after a while the mouse will only move up and down or side to side but not at the same time until it finally gives up all together!
I'm gonna give closing the startup applications and then letting a few start at a time to see if its anything to do with those but please feel free to give any other ideas for me to try as and when please... I'll let you know how I get on

Ok so no joy on that front, even had it crash before it got off the welcome screen :/

The mouse seems to have stopped freezing now though if that helps diagnose it in anyway

did you uninstall the F&H drivers before installing the Clevo ones? It could be driver conflicts.
Have you tried doing a fresh reinstall using only the correct Clevo drivers? If it works in safe mode but is going mental otherwise it sounds like there's some Weird Windows Stuff (technical term) going on - it might be conflicts between the installed drivers?

Hmmmm hadn't thought of that. Will try uninstalling all my drivers one by one and replacing with the Clevo ones when I get back from Uni. Cheers.

As always, I'll report back results!

Still no joy, crashed just after the welcome screen. Just showing a black screen with the task bar, task bar only showing the start button and time! Mouse still working fine though.

What did you use to reinstall Windows? If it was doing this before you did a fresh install and after. There's obviously something going on. Was the original install from the same disc you used to do a fresh install (does that make sense?)
