im looking into getting a laptop and im down to two, one has 256mb dedicated gfx and one has 256mb dedicated with 256 shared (ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 with 512 MB of HyperMemory (256 Dedicated, 256 Shared))

What I was wandering is can you turn off the shared part if say your running a few applications at once and having lots of RAM important but enabling the shared if your gaming.

I may be misunderstanding this as im a bit of a newb so any clarification would be much appreciated

My experience of shared video memory has been that its a value set in the BIOS and therefore you'd require a restart in order to change it which sort of defeats the purpose of what you want. I will stress though that my last shared memory computer was a good 8 years ago or more so things may have changed.
