I'm basically in a position where I have to choose between a 7900M-GS and an 8600M GT in a new laptop. Obviously the 7900 is the better option but the 8600 supports DX10...I guess my question is how inferior is the 8600 performance-wise?

Not much iirc, it's a bit slower than a 1950 pro, I'd go for the 8600tbh, will be more future proof, ie. when games will need a minimum of dx10 in 2 years or so.

in2 years or so when games need a minimum of dx10 the 8600 will keel over to be honest, what graphics cards actually last 2years playing modern games that are not top of range upon release? =/
Hate to hijack but talking of laptop GPUs, nvid 7150 vs ati x1200, both integrated running from main memory? For games ofcourse, both same generation, obviously wont play anything new, just older games, maybes even pro evo 08 on minimum
