Interesting read over at daily tech guys! :)
Asus have made an external graphics card......well a bay ;)
Basically it can hook up to any laptop with an express card slot and you can use any card you wish with it!(PCI-EXpress desktop card) :D pretty awesome stuff tbh! Basically just like the bays for external harddrives you put it in so its protected and its powered externally too, which in theory would mean less draw of power from your laptop and extended battery life.....albeit slightly i would guess!

Take a look! Certainly a cool idea and could hold a good future for laptop gaming!

*if its already been posted then sorry* :P

damn knew i shoulda searched ;)
but anyway further emphasis on what is an exciting bit of tech for laptop gamers!
but will it fit an 8800gtx lol

Someone in the other thread pointed out that it will only run at PCI-E 1x or USB 2.0 speeds, so I really doubt an 8800GTX will be used to its full potential on that. :(

I wouldn't really use anything higher than an X850 on that sort of connector, but it's a step in the right direction because it means future laptop motherboards might be built with this in mind and support a real 16x connection.

That all sounds a bit strange to me considering they launched it at the show and showcased it using a 7900GS in the holster, so surely there must be some wrong info somewhere.

Maybe that kind of power is the limit at the moment but with some optimisation who knows!

Aye, a 7900GS will work over a connector of that speed but its performance will be bottlenecked by the connection.

It would be fine for lower-end cards, but I wouldn't be in a rush to put high-end equipment in it.

hehe that's so cool. What does it use to be plugged in??

no one clearly intersted in this :p i thought it was good news as well for all laptop gamers

Not many people are into laptop graphics.

wel lthere was another thread....my bad

anyways its a sort of bridge connector between the two and thus the bandwith is not the same as a x16 slot in a regular pc and more likje 1xPCI express slot which many have posted. The external Power supply makes sence but all in all it may just end up too limited!

As i said for people stuck to onboard graphics this would prove ideal provided they have an express slot
