Laptop hanging on POST

While waiting for the moderators to activate my account today i went to a differnet forum to try and see if they could help me in the meanwhile however after those were unsucessful and the mods have activated my account now i'm here for help

.

So basically this laptop i have keeps hanging on POST, the laptop is an inspiration 1150

However most of the time when i leave it for a while without trying to boot it or anything it passes the POST screen fine but then leads to a screen showing a '_' flashing then when i go to reboot it gets stuck on the POST screen again..

Any suggestions are helpfull at this moment, thanks.

check the hard drive, this can cause the post to hang if it cant talk to it.

Tried the HDD, RAM, CD Drive.. still no luck

Well after swap testing those out, I can't see it being anything else but the mainboard, its possible the controller has failed, is it detecting the hd and CD?

When i put a CD in and when it eventually passes the POST after about 100000 times it says its corrupt or something and then when i just launch from HD it just comes up with either a flashing '_' in the top left or something else which i can't remember i'll find out when it happens again.

But the weird thing is if i leave it for an hour turned off it will pass POST most of the time for the first try after that first time it just hangs on POST but then if i leave it again for a while it would work again for another attempt (one) before it would hang again.. :S
