im getting a laptop for uni instead of a pc, and the 1 i want is from ****. but the hard drive speed is only 4600 or something. im just going to be using it for music from external drive, work, internet and watching dvds.

will that be ok or should i get a 5400 speed?

4600rpm will be fine, just constant read rates will be lower. If you have plenty of RAM it won't make much difference for office applications. I thought 4600rpm's were being phased out? Last time I checked 80GB drives were good value for money

i have an ibm thinkpad x41 which has a 4200rpm drive. When i got it it was unbearably slow... but a clean install of windows and it was perfect. I have 1.5GB of ram also which helps. 4,200rpm will be fine.
