Laptop hard drives

I am they guy (sadly lol) who family, friends, friends of friends etc turn to with PC and laptop issues. I have only ever had a PC myself.

It seems by far the most common fault I deal with concerning latops is that the hard drive has failed or is about to fail. I have just looked at a laptop for a mate and when I ran the western digital hard drive checker I got told the drive is about to fail and to save any data that needs saving.

Cany anybody recommend a reliable laptop hard drive?

Edit: Out of interest does anybody else seem to find laptop hard drives fail a lot?

Is the drive SATA or IDE?

How much data is stored on it?

If it is sata and they dont store data on it they may aswell go with a SSD now that prices are SO high.

Sorry the laptop is an acer Acer Extensa 5235 and the hard drive is sata

I'd go down the ssd route.. I got my gf a 500gb external hdd and she keeps most of her stuff on that.. Means she can plug it in to any other pc to get what she wants.. And she's gone through a fair few laptops over the years >.<
