Laptop HDD Enclosure Question

Is there a "best make" or any to avoid?

Or is it safe just to buy a cheapy?

i bought a cheapy and it does the job (havent benchmarked it or anything tho)

if u do buy a cheapy try to get an aluminium one as the paint would probably flake off

Depends on what chipset. Oxford or Prolific.

Oxford seems generally more compatible, but inferior performance. Prolific can cause strange problems from corrupted data/partitions, to non detection upon connection over fireware, but firmware upgrade supposed to solve these problems. You need to make sure the box has C or above flash ROM, otherwise you won't be able to flash it. I have two B's and sometimes a SOB, sometimes work no problems...recently having burn problems so decided to ditch them and buy a new PC, moved burning gear to desktop.
