Im off to uni on the 30th september and im looking for a laptop that I can take with me. Basic needs are for msn, music, word processing and some games such as aoe3 and cod2(in spare time).

Budget is £600 very max. (pref less than £580)
Dont mind refurbished or damaged packaging
Looking for ones with good graphics (ie. stand alone gfx, no intergrated crap)
Need to be in stock and available to be delivered within week and a half

Ones that im looking at are:

1 gb ram (512mb for 048)

Anyone know of any others that meet my needs?

I picked up a Acer Aspire 5672 for £799 from a certain highstreet retailer's website, it's a great spec for the price, but it's a bit out of your budget. They're also doing a Fujitsu Amilo PL 1505, with this spec -


  • Processor speed: 1.6 GHz
  • Processor: Intel Centrino Duo
  • Screen size: 15.4 inches
  • Storage (hard drive): 40 GB
  • Memory (RAM): 1024 MB
  • Graphics: 128MBIntel 950
For £499, which is still a bargain :).

What graphics card would be best out of X700 128mb, X1400 128mb, 7300 256mb, for playing aoe3 and cod2.

Would steer clear of the Intel 950 Graphics, it's intergrated for one thing and completely pants for another. I had similar on my Sony Vaio Laptop and even though it had decent CPU and RAM etc it still would struggle with the most basic of games.

The Intel Gfx chip is basically the old Kyro brand which Intel bought so it has different architecture to Nvidia or ATI.
 
mostly laptps and games just dont mix - im talking cod2 - most desktops i know have some trouble playing it on max with a good fps

so imo you should just save ** money for a while longer....or play lower spec games - cod 1
 
Found a Dell Precision M70 / D810 for £580 from a data wiped/order cancelled section with:
Pentium M 1.7GHZ 2MB Cache 600 Bus
1GB RAM 1024 MB
60GB HDD 7200 RPM
CDRW DVD Combo
Nvidia Quadro FX1400 256MB Video

But it also says this:
Data Wiped
Report :- Mismake odd 1 is all M70 except Bios Reports D810 all parts and case report Dell Precision M70.Returned by customer after delivery because of the bios saying D810. Has had asset tracking sticker that has been removed from underside of laptop is as new

This seems to be one cheap laptop for what u r getting, just wondering what the report part means....if anyone would be able to enlighten me, thanks
