Laptop i3 2330M Upgrade????

Hi ive got a Samsung RV520 laptop with a i3 2330M cpu

I gave it a fan clean and i noticed that the i3 2330M was a socket not a soldered cpu so i am wondering if it could be upgraded? If so what could i go up too?

Its a Sandy Bridge 35w socket 988b rpga

In theory you could go all the way to a Core i7-2960XM - *if* you can find one!

That socket supports quad-core i7s, albeit the TDP is higher than 35W. It might be worth checking to see whether the Samsung RV520 was available with any quad-core chips... if so, you know what to look out for!

What do u guys think I could go too?

I was looking at the i7-2670QM but it's a 45w not a 35w would that cause a problem?

Or would a i7-2640M be a better choice as that runs at 35w

I've also read it needs to be bios compatible how would I find that out

It's going to be difficult for someone to promise you that a cpu is going to work in that laptop.

Sometimes OEM manufacturers use different motherboards or cooling solutions depending on what cpu was specced...
