Laptop Ideas - Which One?

I'm not entirely clueless in this regard but am just slightly overwhelmed at the choice of laptops currently out there.

I'm looking to replace my current one - I've had it 3 years and whilst its not broken, its not as fast/good as it used to be. Whilst reformatting it and doing a big clean up would help, I've come to know that these things are fairly disposable. Current model is a Toshiba Satellite 13.3" Intel Core 2 Duo and was fairly good back in 2007. In essence, I have been fairly happy with it and am looking to upgrade to something of a similar size with up to date spec that should see me through a few years of usage.

With that in mind, I am looking for:
ideally between 13 - 14" good quality (HD I think?) screen
weighing no more than around 2kg
2nd gen i5 processor (or better)
4GB RAM
HDD Size not so important (I'd prefer 320GB at 7200 than 500 at 5400)
good battery life
price - as little as possible! Preferably no more than around £750 with more than 1year warranty but may be swayed.

Im particularly interested in the new Toshiba R830.

I've seen a variety of HP, Dell, Sony and Asus models that look to tick most of these boxes. The Samsung SF311 and Sony Vaio S seem to look good. Never hurts to throw it out there to the experts though.

In the same boat myself, looking to upgrade from my Sony Vaio vgn-n38e ‘bought in 2007’.

I would say the Dell XPS 17 looks quite good, or the one down from it the ‘XPS 15’ I think it is.

Just seen an Acer i3 ‘2nd generation, same as Dell models above’, 6gb ram 500gb hdd for £449 in a store that starts with a c & ends with an s if that is any help. ‘sorry mod’s, just trying to help a member’. Did not see any i5/i7 Acer model, but would be worth looking around on the net.

I myself like the look of the new Macbook Pro i7 2nd generation line, but price is a bit of a stretch so possibly looking at that Dell XPS 17 I mentioned.

Hope I have been of some help.
