I recently dug up an old laptop I had sat around under my bed. Amd 3800, 1gb ram, shared graphics. Not too shabby anyway. So I tried to install windows 7 on it, and it gets 100% through the install process, copying files etc. But when it gets to the very last bit of the install the laptop switches off. No warning, no error, nothing. On reboot it tried to load windows but says the setup process was incomplete. on running the setup again I dont get an option to complete it, only to start again.
It cant be the ram cause it happens in the same part of the install each time. Cant be the hd cause it was half full before and wiped this time, so different sectors in use. I cant think what could cause this!
