Hi all, I just purchased a new laptop (specs are below) i've just got it all up and running with windows 7 64 bit but having issues with "iaStor.sys". It causes the machine to hang for 30 seconds then i can use as normal. As its brand new I don't really want to have any problems so just looking for some help.

I have installed all windows updates and latest drivers. Ran chkdsk, The HDD's aren't in any form of raid but I haven't yet tried removing the driver itself as unsure if this will have adverse effects.

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM Mobile Processor 2.00 GHz 6M Intel Smart Cache, Max Turbo Freq. 2.80 GHz

HDD2: 500GB 7200RPM SATA300 HARD DRIVE
MEMORY: 16GB (4GBx4) DDR3-1333 SODIMM Memory
MOTHERBOARD: Intel HM67 Express Chipset Mainboard
SOUND: BUILT-IN AC 97 SOUND
USB: Built-in 2x USB2.0 Ports + 2x USB3.0 Ports
USBHD: NONE
VIDEO: NVIDIA GTX 560M 1.5GB PCIe Video
WEBCAM1: Built-in HD 1280x720 Webcam
WNC: Killer Wireless-N 1103 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi Card

Any help much appreciated

Thanks Ethan

It's the sata controller driver, i do believe. Don't remove or rename it or you could cause yourself even more grief!

Try a virus/malware check then post back

hi thanks for the response, i doubt its a virus due to the fact that i installed the o/s on monday evening. The machine has only spent time online doing updates.

* I will run a scan when i get home just to confirm tho.

Well assumption is the mother of all F ups, especially when troubleshooting ;)

If you didnt have anti-virus installed or uptodate you were still vulnerable online, especially if the OS needed the service pack/updates.

Start there and we will work our way through.

Virus scan complete. tracing cookies nothing else detected. Used malwarebytes + superantispyware. (side note problem seems to be intermittent as not experienced this boot as of yet).

copied this i posted on crucial, want answers b4 i decide to upgrade.

Hi guys, just a quick question my drive 250gb m4 has 0001 firmware according to device manager. Considering updating but want to make sure of something first. Three question.

1st If i create an image using acronis, can i dump that on after the firmware change.

2nd am i correct in saying if you havn't got a problem don't do it?

3rd and final question, what's the point e.g. benefits

Thanks Ethan
