I have an HP 625 laptop for general browsing etc.

Last week I was using the laptop without it plugged in on the charge and now that the battery run out the laptop ceases to work with the charger plugged in.

I have looked online but no solution.

When I have plugged the charger in and press the power button there is a little amber light beside the charging port that flashes 9 times.

Would anyone know what the means?

You would most likely get the info you need by posting this in the Laptop section of the forum. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=111
However with it being a HP laptop you could try...

1- turn off the notebook
2- remove the battery
3- remove the charging adapter
4- Now press and hold the power button for 40 seconds(it will discharge the capacitors)
5- now insert the charging adapter only(dont insert the battery)
6- now press the power button
7- let the windows load and then shutdown it
8- now insert the battery and press the power button

40 seconds is extreme, 5 seconds is enough as there is more than enough draw if it tries to power on.
Rest of the steps are fine.

Genius! But it keeps knocking off and can't keep a constant charge, I have ordered a cheap laptop charger from eBay.

Thanks though for the suggestion.
