Laptop issues (output related)

Using a laptop at work, a lowly IBM with an ATI 7500 card which supports extended desktop on two screens.

I dragged out certain apps to screen 2 on the extended desktop. After I had finished what I was doing on the projector and dragged the apps back I disabled the second monitor, but the apps still open up as if they would be displayed on the secondary screen. ngggggh.

Messing about in display settings but cant get the app to display on the laptop monitor, it still thinks it should show up on the secondary.

Any ideas?
 
Have you tried toggling between screens to see if that forces the application to the correct screen? i.e. on my laptop you press Fn + F5 to switch screens but it varies from laptop to laptop. :)
