Laptop issues when plugged in

Hi guys
I’ve been playing Red Dead 2 on my MSI Geforce GE62 6QF laptop for a few weeks. Everything set on medium, but I’m happy with it. Since yesterday it’s started to stutter all the time and it’s impossible to play. I’ve always had it plugged into the mains, never used it just on battery. I’ve managed to work out that it will still play fine when only on battery, but once I plug it in it stutters again. On battery it’s about 70 degrees, but on mains it’s 90 degrees and throttling. I repasted both CPU and GPU, but no different. Strange one, I’ve no idea on what to do next.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks

when on the battery the power saving settings will be kicking in causing the temps to drop but also a loss in performance I would expect...you could try changing the plugged in profile so that it uses the same power saving setting for various parts?

Have you tried underclocking the gpu using afterburner?

Have you checked all the vents and fins for dust build up as I presume it never used to overheat?

Also monitor cpu and gpu usage in afterburner to see whats going on.

Can you change any cpu setting in bios? speed or voltage?

New paste and clean should have improved things....but didn't.

It is possible for the cooler to go faulty...only ever seen it once...tried everything then change the cooling system out for a new one and temps went back to normal.

Unlikely its that but its possible.
