Hi guys,

Basically the missus somehow manage to spill a glass of juice over the laptop, now while there are no new issues with how it works several of the keys have become unresponsive and need tapping several times on occassion, it feels like some of them are sticking in place.

Is there anyway of fixing this without taking the laptop apart?

WD40 is normally a safe bet but you can easily overdo it and end up with a greasy keyboard instead of a sticky keyboard. I'd consider popping off keys only as a last resort as it's a world of hurt trying to get them back on again, you can gently clean under keys without removing them using cotton buds dipped in isopropyl alcohol.

I would take it apart and put the keyboard under some distilled water then gently wipe the keys and press them all in a good few times so they get cleaned out and then leave it to dry in an airing cupboard, somewhere warn and dry basically and maybe even have it sat on some rice. Only way I find that cleans out laptop keys that are stuck from drinks damage. Do make sure it is 100% dry so leave it a few days to really dry out before reattaching it to the laptop and you could even try gently drying it with a hair dryer set on a very low heat or even cool air at the end and the start of the drying process, but do leave it a good few days too in the airing cupboard to be 100% sure it is dry and remember to everyday to press all the keys in a few times to make sure there are non sticking or stuck.

I find that camera lense cleaner is very good and does not damage the plastics.

Switch lubricant is also good

Either way, you need to take the KB off your laptop tbh.

Depending on the laptop brand and model, the keyboard may be held on in many ways, if you look down the sides/edges of the keyboard, do you see any blocks that look like they are holding the keyboard in? Like small clips?

My laptop (Fujitsu siemens) has them and I found it relatively easy to get out, I couldn't get it back in mind, but I was using a screwdriver! (NEVER again!)

Hope it helps :)
