Laptop LCD - any break-fix laptop engineers...

Have been given a laptop to look at that has a shattered LCD screen and from what I have read so far, quite a lot of laptop LCD screens are quite universal, especially in size - usually 15.4" and mostly 30 pin cable.

Any break-fix engineers out there who do this on a day to day basis know if this is the case that most screen panels and connectors are generic. I know it can sometimes depend on how the panel is lit etc. Any comments welcome!

whats the make of the laptop? Dell require specific screens in some cases. However you are correct, in most cases its a case of 15.4" and 30pin etc.

It's a Packard Bell. I believe they share the same screens as Acer and perhaps Gateway. I've looked at most lcd panel sites and the specifications appear identical - using 30 pin connector, identical resolutions and single lamp screen type CCFL. I'm convinced now that screens must be OEM and branded appropriately by each company. ?
