I want to hook up my laptop up to my new LCD tv, the TV has hdmi, component, scart and S-video input. My Laptop only has vga out, what is the best way to hook the two up?

VGA - DVI adapter then DVI to HDMI. It's a little messy but it should work.

Won't work. To the OP, looks like cannot connect the two up, unless the laptop has S-Video? Which'll look lousy, but at least it'll work.

no

because a DVI output and a VGA output are different things. VGA to DVI works because DVI also carrys an analogue signal. Even though DVI is a digital interface, it carries DVI-D (the digital bit) and VGA/RGB so a DVI port can understand analouge inputs.

HDMI is digital only, so the VGA/RGB output of a VGA port means nothing to it

least thats how i understand it.

The "cheapest" option is probably VGA to component, but it isn't cheap.

I've found a : VGA / SVGA to 3 RCA Component Cable Video For pc tv UK for £5, would this suffice?
