looking at buying upgrading my 6yr old laptop. mostly for heavy photoshop, graphics, rendering and 3d modeling for my Landscape architecture work and student jobs. Gaming will be on the cards, more so when I finish my masters

Im looking at two Sager models. both 17.3inch, both I7 6700HQ, both approx same price ($1800)

One version has 980m 8gb and 250gb ssd (no thunderbolt 3)

second version has 970m 6gb and has the new thunderbolt 3. (only 1tb hdd...I would add a ssd which will bump the price by about $120)

normally i would go straight for option one BUT im thinking long term here. If i get the model that has the thunderbolt 3 connection I could buy an external graphics unit in a year or two to extend the life of the laptop for more demanding games and rendering...

what would you guys do...

How about a P750DM-G? Desktop CPU + 970M/980M.

Failing that the thunderbolt adds flexibility in the future imo.
