Im after a laptop from my uncle he only wants to pay £500 max but wants it for photography and also video editing with his digital camcorder, only basic stuff using windows movie maker..Does anyone have any ideas on a lappy capable of doing this.

Ive seen a few dell machines around pretty cheap but being cheap they lack the spec which im usnire will do the job.

Any ideas guys would be great

Thanks

Best thing really would be to go dual-core if thats the sort of stuff he will be doing although im not quite sure on the current price of the cheapest dual-core laptop.

Id reccomend Dell, they seem to be the only low budget laptops that have powerfull cpus in them. But the core duo ones start at £600.

The only one in that budget is that Dell Inspiron 1300;

Intel Pentium M Processor 1.8Ghz
512MB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM
60GB Hard Drive (5,400rpm)
15.4" Widescreen WXGA (1280x800)
Integrated Direct AGP Graphics
Integrated 8xDVD+/- RW Drive

£523

Overclockers do this for £540: Dell Inspiron 6400 Intel Core Duo T2300

- Intel Centrino Mobile Technology with Intel CoreT Processor Duo T2300 1.66Ghz
- 2MB L2 Cache
- 15.4" WXGA Widescreen Panel (1280x800)
- 512MB DDR2 Memory (2x256MB)
- Intel GMA 950 Media shared graphics memory upto 128MB
- 60GB 5400rpm IDE Hard Drive

Got a dual core cpu which is good for encoding altho im unsure if movie maker would take advantage of 2 cores.

Great thanks guys

do you think the 512mb or ram is enough for video editing ...its only going to be basic stuff?

Yea good point could always be upgraded in the future if need be

wernt sore if 512 would be enough

Thanks again guys for the help
