Im planning on upgrading the wifes laptop ram, her current machine has 1gb of pc2 5300 "555mhz"

ive spotted a nice cheap 2gb module but its 667mhz, am i right in thinking the 667 stick will work ok it will just run at 555mhz speeds in her laptop ?

I believe pc2 5300 is 667mhz ram, google seems to agree.
So you'd be replacing it with the same speed ram you currently have, it'll be fine.

RAM runs at whatever the motherboard tells it to, the replacement will also run at 555MHz. CPU-Z is a good choice for checking things like whether you have one or two slots in the machine.
Some people say there's no real difference to the change, but I'm convinced the 2gb upgrade for my 900MHz celeron did it a world of good :)

shes only got the 1 slot and running vista which seems very sluggish with 1GB

anyways thanks for the confirmation :)
