Hi all, I was given a Sony Vaio VGN-N38E/W with 1gb RAM. It's not got a great processor 1.86ghz T2130 so thinking upgrade to 2GB RAM - how beneficial is this? I've tried looking but no comparisons seem to be out there!?

Also could I fit a SSD drive? Can get a 32gb one for £30 which would be ok and speed it up enormously after I did this to my desktop PC. Could I fit one or is the bus going to be too slow? It's got SATA but how do I know if it is the 600gb/s one? (is that the one it uses?)

If it is still running Vista it will benefit from the RAM upgrade, and also the SSD will make it perform a lot quicker, personally l would see if it is compatible with any Linux distros which will make it a lot more pleasant to use.

can I use 800mhz PC2 6400 ram instead of the 667mhz PC2 5300 ram? Is it compatible?

800mhz ram is cheaper...

Also would a SSD drive work with normal SATA? I don't think I have SATA2?

Anybody?

Is it ok?

Google says 2gb is most i can have. SSD drive will be at a slower speed but still lot better.

Am i reading it right?

Replaced the memory with 2gb and got a new battery which is easy.

2 questions -

1) how long does it take to charge a laptop fully?? Searched google but no conclusive answer.

2) how do you get hard drive out of a laptop!? Want to buy a SSD drive for it but have no idea how to get back cover off. Taken all screws out and nothing.....
