Hey, i got an old compaq m300 which currently has 64mb pc100 ram soldered in and another in the expansion socket. I'm going to replace the expandable one with a 256mb stick.

I'm just wondering if i can buy pc133 for it? Would the memory clock down to pc100 and be compatible with my laptop?

Thank you.
James

It didnt clock down! ><

The laptop recognised the extra memory and gave options to save/ignore/reboot.

But it wouldn't start up win2k at all. So it looks like i'll need to get some pc100 for it!

Hey, the bios had no options to change anything, it just seems that it was very picky. I had to go through 4 modules to find a compatible one.

the first was pc133 which didnt load up windows but was detected in bios etc.
2nd and 3rd was pc100 and had the same problem
the last stick had 16 chips on and worked perfectly.

The website just said it needed pc100 and that was all! ><

Glad its all sorted now
