i have a cheap advent 7000 laptop, i want to upgrade the ram and possibly the cpu, i need to buy second hand as im not working so on a budget, i have no idea what i should be looking for.

the laptop has 2 slots and has 1 x 256mb module, so should i buy 1 module to replace this or should i add a module and keep the existing module? should i go for 1gb of ram ?

the memory in the laptop has these numbers on it 2LE1RM00267 TFC0542

LAPTOP SPEC HERE

i would like to upgrade the cpu too but im not sure what is the biggest cpu i can instal

What OS are you using? I would replace the RAM with a 1gb stick. Check the manfactor's website, see if there's a list of what CPUs the laptop can support.

if you are that hard up, I would reinstall windows and stick a light weight AV on it will run (probably) faster than if you just stuck more memory in...
