Laptop Memory

Got a laptop with 2gb of memory and am going to put in 4gb , apart from actually putting the memory in, is there anything else I need to do before booting it up, any setting up in the bios or should it be automaticaly reconized?.

I had actually bought the laptop for my son but because of it only having 12" screen (Acer 2920) I thought it too small so I got him a bigger sony one and then instead of returning this one I dicided that I liked it so I kept it but it only had 2gb ram so I just put 4gb in and it works fine though only registers 3gb but its a bit quicker now and the ram was only £32 for 4gb from Oc's,
