A couple of times lately, when i turn my laptop on, the monitor does not come on at all, it doesn't just not display anything, it is off. My computer is also tempremental about booting up with a usb hub plugged in, everytime it has done this so far th hub has been plugged in? What is the likely cause and is it likely to be related to the hub?

Many thanks.

It sounds like it could be a problem with the power to the laptops screen, either the internal cabling or possibly with the USB hub attached you are draining too much power on bootup although I'd think the second option marginally less likely. Try removing the USB hub and starting it up a few times to see if the problem still occurs.

Does the problem only occur on cold (i.e. totally from off) boots or also on warm (restarts) boots as well?

look for the suspend switch it may be stuck

this is the part that detects when the screen is open/closed, and when closed will cut power to the screen, common fault with older ibm laptops which require a replacement keyboard bezel
